The EZ bar's zigzag grip takes some of the wrist strain out of a standard barbell curl, which is why a lot of lifters prefer it once wrist discomfort becomes an issue. Mechanically it trains the biceps almost identically to a straight-bar curl. It's a small equipment swap that makes a heavy accessory lift a lot more comfortable to load.

How to Do the EZ Barbell Curl

  1. Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart, gripping the EZ bar underhand with palms turned up.
  2. Keep your elbows tucked against your torso and your upper arms locked in place through the whole movement.
  3. Breathe out as you curl the bar up toward your shoulders, squeezing the biceps.
  4. Pause momentarily at the top, then breathe in as you lower the bar back down slowly.
  5. Complete your planned set count, emphasizing full range of motion and strong peak contraction in the biceps.
