Narrowing the grip on a preacher curl shifts more emphasis onto the inner and long head of the biceps, and the preacher bench does what it always does — removes the shoulder's ability to swing the bar up. Expect the bottom of the rep to feel noticeably harder than the top, which is exactly where this exercise is supposed to challenge the biceps.
How to Do the EZ Barbell Close Grip Preacher Curl
- Sit at a preacher bench, resting your upper arms on the pad while gripping the EZ bar with an underhand, palms-up hold.
- Let your triceps settle against the pad and straighten your arms fully, keeping your back flat.
- Curl the bar upward toward your shoulders in a slow, controlled motion, squeezing the biceps.
- Pause at the top of the curl to really contract the biceps.
- Straighten your arms again to bring the bar back down to the starting stretch.
- Execute the desired number of reps with smooth cadence and consistent focus on the biceps.
