Dumbbell Standing Biceps Curl

- Biceps
The standard standing curl is where most lifters first learn — and first cheat — bicep training, since standing up makes it easy to use the hips and lower back to sling the weight instead of the arm doing the work. Keeping the torso still and the elbow pinned at the side is what separates a curl that builds the biceps from one that just moves weight.
How to Do the Dumbbell Standing Biceps Curl
- Stand up straight with a dumbbell in each hand, palms facing forward and arms fully extended.
- Keeping your upper arms stationary, exhale and curl the weights while contracting your biceps.
- Continue to raise the dumbbells until your biceps are fully contracted and the dumbbells are at shoulder level.
- Hold the contracted position for a brief pause as you squeeze your biceps.
- Inhale and slowly begin to lower the dumbbells back to the starting position.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
