Target
Abs

The band standing crunch loads a standing trunk flexion pattern with resistance from above, working the abs against a downward pull instead of gravity alone like a floor crunch. It's a decent option when getting on the floor isn't practical. Keep the hips still and let the ribs drive toward the pelvis rather than bending at the hips.

How to Do the Band Standing Crunch

  1. Secure the band to a sturdy anchor at waist height.
  2. Stand with your back to the anchor point, feet shoulder-width apart.
  3. Grip the band with both hands and pull it up near your chest, elbows bent and tucked close to your sides.
  4. Brace your abs and fold your torso forward, drawing your chest down toward your knees.
  5. Hold briefly once you've crunched forward, then straighten back up to the starting position.
  6. Continue for the prescribed repetitions while maintaining full control through both the lift and lower phases.
